Beautiful spots and places in a particular country is what commonly brings honor and fame to it. The Philippines is the country visited by many tourists many times a week. Palawan, for example, is a nice tourist spot well-known for its awesome “underground river”. Philippines even get pride from its wonderful beaches such as Boracay and other resorts in Batangas and other places throughout the country; popularity is gained through the places like the Hundred Islands, Chocolate Hills, and more. However, this is not the only thing that should catch our attention. Just like a person whose true and real beauty can be found within his/her character, traits, and personality, a country’s beauty can be seen within itself as well – in its cultural structure, values, norms, and more.

One particular thing that gives beauty to the country of Philippines is the culture in it. Perhaps, the great reality with the culture in the Philippines is that although there are many diverse cultures and practices, they still have one particular cultural structure – a shared culture.  The unity of culture is among 70 different groups of Filipinos that live on the islands (Nickles, 2002). One particular factor on which their culture is founded is the value of morality. Morality is greatly implanted into each Filipino at the young age, particularly in education. Philippine heroes even believed that moral education is essential to social and political transformation (Dy, 1994). Some of the values are courage, freedom, calmness, patience, chastity, and the golden rule. But respect for others is mainly what identifies Filipinos. For example, in their language, they use the words po and opo when speaking particularly to the older person. Other cultures do not have such special treatment with the elderly in terms of their language. That is how much they value respect to their fellow countrymen.

Another value in the Philippine culture is the consensus value. As mentioned earlier, they have a shared culture. People cooperate, work together, have parties together, and observe public laws, customs, and norms together – simply because they have the same values, attitudes, views, and perceptions (Dy, 1994). Those are the ‘beauties’ within the Philippine culture.

Another beautiful culture in the world is the Hispanic culture. Since Hispanics are mere immigrants in America and are supposed to adapt to the majority culture, their own culture is being neglected gradually. Nevertheless, in spite of their differences from the other American races, Latinos (Hispanics) from different national and ethnic backgrounds are considered to enrich the U.S. Hispanic cultural identity (De La Torre, 2009).

One cultural construct is Machismo. This is illustrated by the notion “A man should be homely, hardy, and honourable” (Ortiz, Paris, & Davidson, 2006). This is very relevant to every man since it holds the virtues of masculinity, leadership, courage, and other manly traits. This is valued by the Hispanics as a way of building up right character and quality of male Hispanics. Another one is the Dignidad y Respecto or Dignity and Respect. The Spanish proverb related to this is: “Honor your elders and appreciate the young.” This view promotes equality, understanding, and connection/cooperation in every relationship. Even with politics, this view is a great value that every politician and leader should acquire. Without respect to anyone, there will only be discrimination, corruption, and negligence in the society.

Cultural systems in every country are essential. First and foremost, without the cultural values and norms, there will be no specific identity of a particular country. Moreover, a culture is a pattern of thought and action (Jenks, 2002). Thus, if culture is valued and observed, it brings unity, consistency, coherency as well as beauty among the peoples.
