Paulís Perception of Jesus

Buy Custom Paulís Perception of Jesus Essay

Paul according to the Bible was an apostle of Jesus Christ called upon to spread the gospel of forgiveness of sins and repentance. Paul did not have any contact with Jesus as his apostleship began after the death, rise and ascension of Jesus. (Acts, Chapter 9: 1-8). Paul perceived Jesus in a number of ways but important one was that Jesus is the Son of God and that he was sent to earth to redeem man from sins and eternal death. (Romans, Chapter 1: 3-7).

Paul’s Perception

According Tatum (1982), the Johannine portrayal of Jesus was he was the son of God and that he was the sacrifice that was offered for the ultimate atonement of the sins of man. Furthermore, Tatum also explains that Jesus lived life as a man to show that man could also achieve such extent of perfection. This fact can be substantiated from several verses in the Bible. In the whole Chapter of Romans Paul constantly makes reference to Jesus, using his life as an example to Christians that just as Jesus conquered the desires of the flesh, so can they. For instance in Romans Chapter 15 & 16 Paul outlines that Jesus did not mind so much about himself. Therefore Paul perceived Jesus as the perfection that all Christians should seek to emulate. Paul also believed that God gave his grace through Jesus Christ. This outlines the fact that Jesus was the vessel through which God forgave man. (1 Corinthians, Chapter 1: 3-9). Paul outlines that although Jesus was the son of God he never acted so but humbled himself and came to this world to save man from his sins. Paul continues to point out that just as Jesus was humble and yet he was the son of God so should Christians live their lives in humility. He continues to emphasize that Jesus was sent to this world to serve as an example to Christians (Philippians 2: 5-11).
