2It may seem that keeping healthy when in college is impossible. Students simply have no time to maintain a healthy routine what with all the classes, assignments, extracurricular activities, and social life. Plus parents are far away and cannot see to it that you have proper breakfast and get to bed on time. The freedom brings all kinds of temptations: eating out every other day, partying till 3 in the morning (even though you have an exam tomorrow)… the list can go on and on. Make sure you eat right. It is not as hard as it seems. Instead of snacking on fries, chocolate bars and cookies, eat yogurt and fruits. Do not skip breakfast – your organism needs it to function properly throughout the day. Cook yourself whenever you can – home-made food is much healthier than take-out meals plus this allows you to save extra money.
Get proper night’s sleep. Staying awake for 20 hours is not what nature intended. You have to sleep 7-8 hours every day in order to feel good and be able to handle all your chores and responsibilities. Yes, occasionally you may need an all-nighter to finish a term paper or get ready for tomorrow’s presentation, but do not make this a habit.
Abstain from alcohol and smoking. We all know this it detrimental for our health. A cigarette in one hand and a beer can in the other don’t make you cooler, smarter or more attractive. Quite the contrary, this ages the body, reduces brain function and poses a threat to your overall well-being.
Exercise! Just about every college offers free gym membership and various sports programs. Why don’t you join? Regular physical activity is an essential aspect of healthy lifestyle. It also a perfect break from the tiring study routine. What’s more, you can just as well work out in your dorm room regardless of how cramped it is. Simple push-ups, crunches and sit-ups can work miracles for your body.
